Welcome

I often use images for my blogs and articles from Wikimedia commons and always enjoy the featured photo of the day which inspires me to learn more about the story behind the photo.

I thought to share the "wisdom" would be fun and informational for my readers and have decided to share some of these amazing locations from around the world.

What Is Wikimedia Commons?

Wikimedia Commons is a media file treasury that makes available to everyone, in their own language, public domain and freely-licensed educational media content, including images, sound, and video.

It is a common repository used by the Wikimedia Foundation, created and maintained by volunteers. The code of the commons is explained in the Project Scope Pages.  The Commons is fueled by Wiki Technology.

Wikimedia Commons came to be on September 7, 2004, and currently (as of October 15, 2019) contains 56,516,202 files and 55,831,714 media collections!

Wikimedia Commons is free for everyone to copy, use, and modify the files according to the author's specifications.

The license of each file is described on each file description page.  The Wikimedia Commons database is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License.
